Overview
"The Egyptian has a kind of big-adjective poetry about it... Director Michael Curtiz deserves to be ranked for his managerial marvels with the general contractor who put up The Pyramids," - Time magazine

An exhaustively researched, lavishly produced epic of the ancient world, The Egyptian (1954) weaves the alluring tale of a founding (Edmund Purdom) who rises to become court physician to Pharaoh Akhnaton (Michael Wilding), friend of the ambitious military man Horemheb (Victor Mature), and ensnared by the charms of three women: one loving and faithful (Jean Simmons), another interested only in power (Gene Tierney), the third a seductive but treacherous Babylonian courtesan (Bella Darvi). Smartly directed by Michael Curtiz (Casablanca, The Adventures of Robin Hood), with a superlative score by no less than two of Hollywood's greatest composers: Alfred Newman and Bernard Herrmann.
